Conference on Traditional Knowledge For Climate and Ecosystems Change Adaptation
- The Conference on Traditional Knowledge for Climate and Ecosystems Change Adaptation took place in Colombo, Sri Lanka in November 2010.
- The conference was organized by the United Nations University Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP) and the University of Peradeniya, in collaboration with the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) initiative by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO).
- The conference was supported by the Mitsui Foundation.
- Participants included designated members of the University Network for Climate and Ecosystems Change Adaptation Research (UN-CECAR) and professionals from Sri Lankan irrigation systems.
- The main objectives of the conference were to understand the accumulated knowledge and social frameworks of local communities living in harmony with their natural environment, learn from indigenous knowledge for developing sustainable adaptation strategies, and discuss integration of traditional and scientific knowledge for adaptation in UN-CECAR member countries.
