By Srikantha Herath, Johanna Diwa, Christine D. Perez and Hideyuki Mohri
During this exploratory conference, a consensus was achieved regarding the framework for future transdisciplinary educational programs. The event's success was evidenced by the agreement on next steps to establish pilot projects for Transdisciplinary Education for Disaster Risk Reduction (TeDrr). These pilot projects would serve as foundational components for broader educational initiatives within the university network.
This comprised two main parts:
-
Presentations: The initial part featured presentations from prominent academics, experts, and practitioners in disaster risk reduction. These presentations aimed to provide participants with valuable insights into diverse experiences related to disaster risk reduction.
-
Panel Discussion: The second portion of the conference consisted of a panel discussion, offering a platform for thorough discussions. This discussion incorporated both international and local viewpoints, exploring potential models for Te-DRR (Transdisciplinary Education for Disaster Risk Reduction) and fostering collaborations among various stakeholders.
In essence, the conference brought together experts and stakeholders to lay the groundwork for transdisciplinary educational initiatives in disaster risk reduction.
